Wishlist Wednesday

There's been mixed opinions on this dress, but personally I love it! Apart from the bold colours, it is fairly simple, classic Michael Van Der Ham design. Known for his collaged colours and textures, the Dutch designer's main line dresses go for around £950 so you would be a fool not to bag this one at a reasonable* £150! Oh, and he's designed dresses for Bjork too!!

He has designed a few items for Topshop (including the dress), ranging from £110 to £200 - and I expect them to be fast sellers, so make sure you're quick!! Take a look here.

Just because someone tells you that you can't do something doesn't mean you have to listen...

So, firstly, I would like to say sorry. It's been well over a month since I last posted. There were several reasons for my departure; I now understand what 'being a blogger' really involves. I thought it was all a bit of fun but you're always going to get people that takes things a step too far, basically a few silly words from someone and I was off!

Anyway, I'm back! I've been up and down the past few weeks and today I decided that I'm going to make a fresh start, get organised and get happy! I logged on to here earlier today to find the most amazing figure of viewers; I couldn't believe that people have still been looking at my blog and I've not even been around! I've had so many people over the past few weeks asking me when I was going to be posting again and urging me to come back on here and it's finally worked!

Not everyone is going to like me or my blog, and I've now got over it! Time to focus on the people that DO like it!

I've had so much I could have been posting about in the past few weeks, I'm gutted I haven't! Fashion is SO good right now, Autumn/Winter clothing is my absolute favourite - although I love the nice weather (not that we've really had much this year!), I think fashion is at its best this time of the year.

I've been so bored lately all I've been doing is browsing the stores online, can't wait to share some amazing pieces with you all! What has everyone else been up to whilst I've been gone? Remember to leave your comments! :)

Back to Reality...

Hello everyone!

Firstly, I would like to apologise for not keeping my blog up to date this week. What with being on holiday, visiting family and my birthday, every time I sat down to post I was dragged away somewhere! Anyway, I'm back and I promise to make up for my absence.

So, I thought I would update you all with what's been happening. I was shocked to return to consistent amazing viewing figures, considering I haven't even been attending to the blog! As well as new comments and followers! (Don't be too shy to say hello!)

As I've said, I've been away in Wales which always means hardly any signal and jam-packed days where I barely have time to breathe! We always say we will try and stay away from the shops and go to different places but we still ended up going shopping mad! Most of my purchases were jewellery items to be honest, if you know me then you know I love my jewellery and nine times out of ten I would choose a piece of jewellery over an equally as nice item of clothing. Although I did buy one dress from New Look yesterday, I was given a gift card and wanted something to wear out for a meal for my birthday last night. The top half of it is lace and the skirt part is pleated, (and conveniently I can't find it online!) I shall post a photo soon. It's nothing that special but I couldn't really be bothered trying lots on so just decided to go with it!

As for the other things I did - visited family as usual, went to Barry Island for my first time - typical seaside town but because I'm a massive Gavin & Stacey fan it suited me down to the ground. Had the loveliest chips in Boofy's but sadly didn't get an Ice Cream from Marco's. Ended up spending lots of money on little souvenirs; the usual postcards, mugs etc. I'm souvenir obsessed, seriously, it's terrible!

Marco's!

Me in Nessa's Slots (Bad photo!)

Boofy's!
Other adventures included the annual trip to Rhossili, it was a gorgeous day and there were dolphins! YES, DOLPHINS! Out of the 10 years we have been going there we have always missed the dolphins and then suddenly they were there! Admittedly though, they were quite hard to see and therefore I don't really have any photos of them but it was such an amazing thing to see. And also for the first time the causeway to Worm's Head was closed until later on in the evening which was unusual as it is usually open around midday.

Rhossili
I'm pretty sure I'm boring everyone here so I will try not to go on too much longer! Again this isn't really a fashion post is it? But they will resume from tomorrow!

Yesterday it was a toss up between Cardiff and The National Showcaves. Stupidly I chose the Showcaves, don't ask! I was moody all the way there because of this, however when I actually got there and stepped in the caves it was amazing! Actually part of the reason I chose them was because I didn't want to spend any more money than I already had.....! I had actually never been to any caves before so it was a great experience. They even have a cave there named 'Cathedral Cave' where people get married! The only part where I wasn't amused was when I had to walk in between two waterfalls and as a result got soaked!

All in all it was a great trip. Same hotel as each year with the same lovely staff. It's so nice to be surrounded by lovely people constantly for a change. I'm not saying people back home are horrible, not at all! But although some people disagree, I truly believe Wales is a happy place... and the customer service is 100 times better to be honest with you. As always, when leaving this morning I was so upset, as were the staff at the hotel. They said they love having friendly faces around and generally find many people to be miserable. It made me think about what has happened to people over the past few years, no one is as friendly anymore, the world would be such a better place if we were.

So, back to my purchases, and as I mentioned in my last post, I'm obsessed with Clogau Gold. If you're like me and you have a special connection with Wales then I think the jewellery is really precious. I didn't own any items before this visit and have now come back with two rings and a bracelet and I'm currently browsing their website to buy more! The thing is, because the St Davids Gold Mine closed in 1998, the Welsh Gold will eventually run out which means it's the rarest in the world. And if it's good enough for royalty......!

For some reason my photos of the jewellery aren't uploading, I will definitely post them tomorrow. In the mean time have a look at their website: http://www.clogau.co.uk/!

Anyone own any Clogau items? Regularly visit Wales etc? Let me know!

Little Update from Sunny Wales!

Hi everyone!

Sorry there was no post yesterday, I was mega busy packing and then somehow the time just slipped away!

Anyway, I am now in Wales and have spent about two hours trying to log on to here on my phone! Signal is really that bad!

I've already been spending! I'm obsessed with all things Welsh and I've wanted an item of Clogau Gold for a while, so ended up buying the 'Lady of Caerphilly' ring, for £130 instead of £260! Bargain! It's got three little emeralds in it which I really like. Bit of a love or hate ring I think - may not be to everyone's taste! (You can judge for yourself with the photo below) And I also bought some Loose Women shower gel (random I know!)

Yet again this isn't a very 'fashion-y' post but I am using my phone and I'm restricted, I don't even know if this is going to come out properly!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend like I am! Will be back with more fashion stuff soon!

Nos da!

ChloBo!

Today I discovered designer Chloe Moss' collection of jewellery, named 'ChloBo'. Her jewellery is 'inspired by the beauty and energy of Bali culture.' The jewellery is designed to be collected and worn together to create a stacked look.

There are four collections in ChloBo's jewellery range:

- The Oystins: These are made up of pearls, silver beads and different charms.
- The Iconics: These are made up of Silver beads, 'Noodles' and different charms
- JuJu: Created with Horn and Rossdale beads and silver charms
- Summer Love: Made from a selection of bright coloured beads and charms

I love all the jewellery but especially the Summer Love collection which various pieces are being spotted on the wrists of the celebs this summer, as well as the gorgeous necklace Cheryl Cole has been seen wearing from the JuJu collection.

As you may have noticed, Peter Andre was thrown into that mix of photos! There is also a collection cleverly named 'ChloBoy', which means everyone can enjoy this jewellery!

A few of my favourite pieces are:

And some for the boys...

Definitely a must-have collection to get the celebrity look! Please have a look at the website http://www.chlobo.co.uk/

Which are your favourite pieces? Will you be buying some ChloBo? Leave me a comment!
(All images above taken from http://www.chlobo.co.uk and http://www.facebook.com/ChloBoJewellery)

In other news, my blog may be a little quieter from tomorrow evening as i'm off on my holiday... to Wales! I joke about this however, I would not wish to go anywhere else. Wales has always had a special place in my heart and is definitely my favourite place to be. I sometimes wish I could just pack up all my stuff and run away to a little cottage out in the sticks in Gower but sadly this is not an option...! My favouritist favouritist place is Rhossili, I took this photo last year (below), it is truly one of the most beautiful places, and so relaxing. Even Dylan Thomas used to cross the causeway over to Worms Head to get inspiration for his writing. You don't really understand how amazing it is until you've been!

So anyway, even though I say I'll be quieter, I am shamefully taking my laptop with me so I will probably still end up posting!

Also, I don't know if anyone has noticed, I have a little Cosmo box at the side of this page, which takes you to a page to vote for me to win a Cosmo Blog Award 2011! I know I've literally only been on the blogging scene for just over a week or something ridiculous like that! But I have already had so much support and feedback from you all and a staggering amount of views (I'm seriously shocked!), that it would be so amazing if you did possibly want to vote for me.

If you do, just click on the Cosmo box at the side as I said, and then type in my blog url which is http://www.the-life-of-a-fashionista.blogspot.com/ and select the 'New Fashion Blog' category. I would be ever so grateful. I know i've already had a few votes so thank you so much to everyone!

And I think that's just about everything! Bit of a mixed post for you all there. Please remember to share your views in the comment box below, I want you all to have a say in the ramblings I post too!

Sleek MakeUp Pout Paint!

I finally have another beauty/make-up post for you!

I'm obsessed with all things lips at the moment and got extremely excited when I saw these were going to be launched tomorrow! 'These' being Sleek MakeUp's Pout Paints.

The highly anticipated paints act as both a gloss and a lipstick. They have an ultra intense pigment like a lipstick and the texture of a gloss. They are said to be fade proof and a long wearing formula. I am forever hunting for some sort of lip product that will actually stay on after you have eaten or had a drink, rather than leaving those two horrible lines around your lips that are super embarrassing if you don't touch them up! Which means I am always pulling out whichever product I'm using whilst out and about, resulting in me looking very vein! Therefore I'm really hoping that these do what they claim to do - I can't wait to get my hands on them!

The Pout Paints will come in 11 different shades, two of which are mixing shades. Cloud 9 (Pure White) will allow you to cool/lighten colours whilst Peek-a-Bloo (Blue) will warm/darken shades! I love the idea of being able to create your own unique shades with these and getting so many different looks for a bargain price. Because the product is intensely pigmented, it means a little of it will go a long way, ie. these should last you ages!

They take the same kind of idea as OCC Lip Tars, except they are cheaper and more widely available to us in the UK! And the Sleek MakeUp website ships worldwide, so we can all be happy!

These will be available from tomorrow at Superdrug and Sleek MakeUp for only £4.99 each! Make sure you snap them up whilst you can!

So what do you think? Will you be purchasing these? Do any of you own any of the OCC Lip Tars? Let me know!

Click for Fashion

I've recently entered the world of online shopping in a big way, don't get me wrong, I love going in to shops and being able to see things properly for myself and also being able to try on, however I have discovered there's so much more to the world of fashion than Topshop and River Island (which is where I always tend to find myself!) So many unusual pieces can be found online, as well as amazing vintage and celebrity look bargains. So here's my picks of the bunch!

Catwalk Look

Aqua by Aqua - http://www.aquabyaqua.com/

I absolutely love the red carpet and catwalk look dresses on this site. Definitely must haves if you're off somewhere special where you want to make a statement. Some of my favourites are...

Lopez Maxi Dress (Also available in Green, Orange and Black) - £175
Fleetwood Maxi Dress (Also available in Orange Print and Plain Orange or Black) - £135
Poppy Mini Dress (Also in Tan) - £88

Spock Jumpsuit - £129
Finsk for Aqua Wedges (Also in Stone) - £420
Scott Wilson for Aqua Albatross Necklace - £120

Celeb Look

Missguided Fashion - http://www.missguided.co.uk/

Missguided are amazing for some of the popular dresses you see all over the magazines on celebrities. They stock my favouritist (is that even a word?!) style dress of the moment on their site which has been seen on The Saturdays' Frankie Sandford. The prices are extremely reasonable too. Get a real bargain celebrity look.

Leeane 'Frankie' Pleat Dress in Burnt Orange (Also available in Rust and Camel) - £24.99
Jemimma Crochet Waistband Skater Dress in Peach (Also available in Cream, Red and Rust) - £24.99
Calantha 'Cheryl' Maxi Dress in Mocha (Also available in Black, Blush, Coral and Red) - £29.99
Ashlee Backless Bandage 'Cheryl' Dress in Black (Also available in Cream and Blush) - £22.99
I also love Missguided's selection on Playsuits & Jumpsuits - take a look!

Vintage Look

Pret a Portobello - http://www.pretaportobello.com/

Pret a Portobello sell a mixture of clothing but I especially like the Vintage section. I'm a bit obsessed with all their sequined and embellished pieces. Definitely glam garments for Autumn.

Vintage Pure Embellishment Jumper - £30
Vintage Dawn Flower Sequin Top - £70
Vintage OJ Linen Jacket - £50
Vintage Feather Drop Sequin Dress - £80

So, have a look at these sites and let me know what you think! Such lovely pieces to be had.

Sorry for the lateness and the not so great-ness of this post, I'm not feeling too grand so I shall now be off.

Goodnight fashionistas,

Sunday 31 July 2011

Lauren Loves... Vivienne Westwood!

So, each Sunday I will be posting about one of my favourite things (hence 'Lauren Loves!'); whether it be a certain designer, shop, fashion trend or fashion icon.

Today is the turn of fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood. I have always been a massive fan of Vivienne's and I'm forever browsing through her latest collections. Note i'm forever 'browsing' and sadly not forever buying!

Anyway, I thought I would share my latest wishlist with you all! It's my birthday soon... hint hint!

Classic Orb Bag - £665
Melissa Skyscraper Heels - £128
Orb Locket - £190
Orb Poison Ring - £160
Naughty Alice perfume - £35-60
Leather Heart Gloves - £175
Anglomania Ankle Boots - £90
I absolutely love the burgundy Classic Orb 'Doctors' style bag. It is produced in a decadent faux crocodile skin, finished with the signature gold Westwood Orb on the front. There are even Orb engraved studs on the base of the bag and handles! It is priced at £665, but it is definitely an investment piece!

The classic black heels would fit in anyone's wardrobe perfectly! They can be worn with absolutely anything. A classic platform court covered in faux suede for a luxurious look. The Westwood orb appears on the gold tag near the heel.

Next is the Orb Locket and Orb Poison Ring. They both open to reveal a hidden compartment, which I love the idea of. The locket is Sterling Silver and is decorated with Swarovski crystals. Inside is a heart shaped inscription in French, “+ qu'hier - que demain“ meaning: (I love you) more than yesterday less than tomorrow (which is so cute!) The ring is also made from Sterling Silver and Swarovski crystals.

My favourite perfume at the moment is Naughty Alice. This is how the perfume is described on the Vivienne Westwood website: 'Naughty Alice is a sensual and audacious new fragrance inspired by Vivienne Westwood's playful and highly creative imaginary universe. Sexy, musky yet comforting, Naughty Alice enlivens the senses and is the perfect example of modern femininity. The fragrance transports you to a sensual dream world where everything is possible and your adventurous curiosity can be unleashed. This chic feminine and provocative new floriental perfume leaves you with a naughty twinkle in the eye. At the very heart of Naughty Alice's perfume is a luminous floriental which dazzles the senses. The modern powdery elegance of black rose and carnal violet is sublimated by the warm sensuality of the ylang-ylang.' Personally, I just like the smell and have not yet been transported to that 'dream world' however I shall live in hope! The perfume is available in three sizes (30ml, 50ml, 75ml) and with each bottle you recieve a lovely charm bracelet.

The soft black leather Heart Gloves are brand new, taken from the AW11 Womenswear collection. The gloves fasten at the wrist with a gold press stud engraved with the Orb. I've wanted some leather gloves for a while but I always find them a bit boring; these are definitely more girly.

Finally, the little black ankle boots that I have wanted for absolutely ages but didn't see any point in buying until Autumn. I will eventually get my hands on them soon; they're perfect for rainy days but a lot more of a statement piece than ordinary wellies. On the website it mentions them being 'bubblegum scented'?!?!?!

And now, I decided to pick out some pieces from the mens collection. None of my posts so far have included anything men would even slightly be interested in really, so here we go...

Two Button Classic Suit - £600
Skull and Orb Black Tie - £70
Montana Snow Jacket - £165
Metropolitan Bag - £525
If you fancy a splurge on a suit, then this is the one for you. A timeless must have from the Autumn/Winter 2011-12 Mens Collection. The tailored, slim cut wool suit is finished with skull and crossbone lining and brown Orb engraved buttons.

To match your suit you may like the slimline Skull and Orb tie, also from the AW11 collection.

The jacket is a popular style featured in many different branded collections this year. This particular one if from a collaboration between Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and Lee Jeans. The quilted piece features an embroidered Orb on the chest and Orb engraved button.

The soft tan leather bag is ideal for travelling in style. A very reasonable size, again featuring an engraved Orb logo.

There were lots of other items I was going to share with you from http://www.viviennewestwood.com/ and http://www.hervia.com/ however I didn't want to bore you too much!

So, any of you own any Westwood items? More importantly, do any of you own the ankle boots? Do they REALLY smell like Bubblegum?! Let me know what you think!

A Right Royal Do!

So today was the day for our second Royal Wedding of the year! The Queen's granddaughter, Zara Phillips and rugby star Mike Tindall finally tied the knot! I do love my Royals so I was very excited about today's event; especially the outfits to come out of it!

(Left) Princess Beatrice (Right) Princess Eugenie
Princess Beatrice & Princess Eugenie both wore outfits from designer, Angela Kelly. Beatrice opted for a bright blue suit whilst Eugenie stayed neutral in brown and cream.

(Left) Prince Edward & Sophie, Countess of Wessex (Right) Autumn Phillips
Sophie wore a taupe tailored outfit by Bruce Oldfield and a matching hat by Jane Taylor, whilst Autumn also wore a similar tailored two-piece.

(Left) The Queen (Middle) Prince Charles & Duchess of Cornwall (Right) Princess Anne
The Queen represented the joyous event in a bright apricot outfit, from designer Stewart Parvin (who also designed Zara's dress!) She matched it with a straw hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan. Camilla wore an ivory coat dress along with a floral head piece, and the bride's mother, Princess Anne was colourful in a red pleated skirt and a floral jacket.

(Left) The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge (Right) Linda Tindall
Kate Middleton chose a cream coat dress (which she has reportedly worn before at the wedding of Laura Parker Bowles and Harry Lopes in 2006). I was actually a little disappointed with Kate's hat, which almost resembles a satellite dish... but anyway! The groom's mother, Linda wore a simple but elegant dress with a lilac jacket.

There were even some recognisable stars in attendance at the wedding. Una Healy joined rugby boyfriend Ben Foden and Katherine Kelly came to see her school friend, Mike Tindall become a married man. Television presenter Kirsty Gallagher also joined the celebrations.

(Left) Una Healy (Middle) Kirsty Gallagher (Right) Katherine Kelly

But, of course the most exciting thing of all was Zara's dress; designed by Stewart Parvin, paired with Jimmy Choo heels and flowers by florist Paul Thomas. Her Greek key tiara was lent to her by her mother, Princess Anne.

Zara Phillips arriving at Canongate Kirk
Zara's maid of honour and best friend, Dolly Maude wore a dove-grey, duchess satin cocktail dress, also by Stewart Parvin. The dress was made to echo the silhouette created by Zara's gown. She wore Emmy shoes and Emmy hair decoration. The bridesmaids, Zara's half-sister Stephanie Phillips, Dolly Maude's daughter Nell, Jaz Jocelyn (the daughter of a family friend) and Hope Balshaw (daughter of the best man, Iain), wore dresses by local dressmaker, Sue Palmer. Zara also had one page boy: her godson, and Dolly Maude's son, Ted, who was in traditional Balmoral tartan.

... And here are the happy couple as they emerged from the ceremony!

And the official wedding photograph...

Aaah, what a lovely wedding! Let's all wish Zara & Mike a very happy future together!

(I do not own any of the photograph's above. All photos were taken from http://www.hellomagazine.com and http://www.dailymail.co.uk)

Lend A Helping Hand

So today I am completely lacking fashion inspiration, mainly because I am in a foul mood due to having my hair cut. One of the things I hate the most is a trip to the hairdressers, which is stupid right? Because you're meant to come out feeling and looking a lot better? Well this is never the case for me, and especially not today! They never do what I ask, always cut my hair a lot shorter than I want and make it super flat.

ANYWAY, I sat down for a few minutes and thought about it and realised how stupid I was for being so miserable just because of my hair! There's so much else going on in the world and so many people that have much bigger worries, A LOT bigger worries than me.

So anyway, I asked what people would like me to blog about today. One of the suggestions was Aston Villa, which isn't really one of my strong points I have to admit! I then recieved a tweet from food writer, author and founder of the 'Precious Hearts Foundation', Sally Bee, suggesting I wrote something about 'The Survivor Birds.' The Survivor Birds being Sally Bee herself, her friend Anna Westwood and 38 other women, who together have proved that life is for living and are encouraging other women to do the same and raise crucial funds for charity. They all gave their time, voices and inspiration to raise money for three charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Star Support for Domestic Violence, by recording a single of the Helen Reddy song, I am Woman.

The video above says it all, these women are inspirational and the charities they are supporting totally deserve support. For more information on the charities visit Sally Bee's website, where you can also purchase the CD, 'Sisters Roar' for £2.99. You can also purchase it through iTunes. All profits go to the charities.

(Information taken from http://www.sally-bee.com/)

This blog post is going to become a real charity post now, as I have two other charities to share with you.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital has one of the busiest Children’s Heart Centres in the UK. Over the past few years the demand for their cardiac services has increased due to their excellent reputation and life transforming stories, such as Alison Hammond's niece. However, because of the demand they need to replace their existing facilities with new ones and add a second cardiac theatre, which will be the first of its kind at a UK children’s hospital. They will be able to perform surgical procedures and keyhole techniques simultaneously, and reduce the number of operations that children may need - generally making children's experiences at the hospital much better.

Please watch the following video: http://www.bch.org.uk/

Donating to 'The Children's Heart Appeal' couldn't be any easier. You can do this via Text, by texting 'HOSP33' followed by a space and then £3, to 70070. Also by post: By sending a cheque or a CAF voucher with a donation form. Find more information here.

(Information taken from http://www.bch.org.uk/)

The final charity I am sharing with you today is The Parkinson's Society. This is due to the fact that my grandad has the condition and has been suffering with it for as long as I can remember. For anyone that doesn't know what Parkinson's is, it is a progressive neurological condition. One person in every 500 has Parkinson's. That's about 120,000 people in the UK. Most people who get Parkinson's are aged 50 or over but younger people can get it too. One in 20 is under the age of 40, which was my grandad's case.
People with Parkinson's don't have enough of a chemical called dopamine because some nerve cells in their brain have died. Without dopamine people can find that their movements become slower so it takes longer to do things. The loss of nerve cells in the brain causes the symptoms of Parkinson's to appear. There's currently no cure for Parkinson's and no one knows why people get the condition. Parkinson's doesn't directly cause people to die, but symptoms do get worse over time.

This is why the society still needs support to continue research and help improve lives.

You can donate to the society on their Virgin Money Giving Page or by post or even by phone, on 020 7932 1303

And that is it, all I wanted to say. Please help these charities if you can - any donation is gratefully recieved and can help in such a big way. I know this isn't a 'fashion post' but there are much more important things to write about sometimes. I hope you will all read this and share it with other people.

Thank you,

H&M Summer Capsule Wardrobe!

It's that time of year where many people are getting ready to jet off on their summer holiday's - rushing to find last minute bits, discovering you don't have much to wear apart from the thousands of pretty bikini's you've been buying, worrying that you won't fit everything into your suitcase; to then come home and discover you didn't wear half of it - we've all done it!

This is why I love the idea of creating a capsule wardrobe; a small selection of items that can be mixed and matched to create different looks each day. I then thought to myself how much easier it would be if you could buy your capsule wardrobe all from one store, saving time AND money!

So, my first stop was H&M, they have a brilliant sale on at the moment and if you look carefully you can create a brilliant selection of items. This is what I came up with from their website (below), however, as long as it mixes and matches, you can choose anything you like! (All the items below are in the sale by the way)

White Vest Top - £2.49
Black and White Patterned Shorts - £4.99
Orange and Pink Stripe Top - £5.99
